ADAM A GAFARU

Response for the Regional Consultation on Meaningful Youth Engagement in NDCs

Name: ADAM A GAFARU
Organization: ASIRIBISI DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE LBG
Country: Ghana

a. Challenges in youth engagement:

Limited access to platforms for policy dialogue and decision-making at the national and regional levels.

Youth in rural areas, especially in Northern Ghana, are often excluded due to digital gaps and lack of awareness.

Inadequate representation of youth in national climate governance bodies.

b. Gaps in Ghana’s NDCs:

Lack of clear commitments to youth-led climate initiatives.

Limited integration of indigenous and local knowledge, especially from youth in climate-vulnerable zones.

Absence of youth-specific indicators in the implementation and monitoring frameworks.

c. Ideas to bridge youth and decision-makers:

Establish regional youth climate councils that feed into national policy processes.

Institutionalize youth quotas in national and regional climate committees.

Increase funding for youth-led environmental advocacy and innovation.

d. Youth-led solutions and support needs:

Scaling up climate-smart agriculture among youth to address food insecurity and climate resilience.

Developing localized early warning systems in partnership with young community leaders.

Capacity-building in climate policy, project design, and resource mobilization.

I believe that climate action cannot be separated from social justice. As founder of One 4 Africa Organization, I work with marginalized groups such as Pygmies and Peuhls, who are among the most vulnerable to climate change. Their voices are rarely heard in global debates, yet they carry knowledge and resilience that are essential for sustainable solutions. My goal is to advocate for inclusive climate policies that recognize the rights of minorities, children, and future generations. By joining Youth4Climate, I want to share my experience in grassroots advocacy, learn from other young leaders worldwide, and build bridges between local realities and global action. Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, but also the greatest opportunity to create a more just, united, and peaceful world.
