My 5 Whys Analysis on Climate Mobility:
Climate Issue: Climate-displaced communities in southern Brazil struggle to integrate into host cities.
- Why? Because they face severe barriers to stable housing, mental health support, and economic inclusion.
- Why? Because local social services are overwhelmed and not designed to handle rapid, climate-induced demographic shifts.
- Why? Because climate mobility is treated as a short-term emergency response rather than a permanent, long-term structural reality.
- Why? Because municipal governments lack localized data on how climate migrants are actually integrating over time.
- Why? Because there is no systematic feedback loop between the displaced communities and local policymakers.
My Creative Solution:
To address the root cause of the missing feedback loop, I propose creating a youth-led "Community Integration Lab." This would be a participatory platform where climate migrants and refugees map their own integration journeys (housing, jobs, access to services) and directly co-design solutions with local authorities. By using real-time, community-led data, we can shift the narrative from emergency response to long-term, inclusive urban planning.
