Europe has ambitious climate policies, but youth involvement varies across countries. Young climate leaders are advocating for stronger commitments, but challenges remain. This session will discuss best practices for integrating youth voices into European NDCs.
We encourage you to share your insights by contributing to this discussion room and consultation survey form.
Your input will help shape:
- Comprehensive Report: A summary of the consultations, incorporating key insights from both the discussion page and the survey form. This report will highlight key findings, identify barriers, and present recommendations and success stories of youth engagement in NDCs globally.
- Policy Recommendations: A set of actionable recommendations for governments, informed by inputs from the discussion and survey, to enhance children and youth participation in all stages of the NDC process.
- Increased Youth Advocacy: Empowering young climate activists with knowledge and resources to advocate for these policy recommendations and raise awareness about the importance of youth inclusion in NDCs.
Therefore we kindly ask you as young changemakers and climate advocates , to give your inputs to the below questions:
- Youth Priorities and Climate Challenges: What are the most pressing climate challenges for young people in your region, and which sectors should be prioritized to address their needs?
- Barriers to Meaningful Youth Engagement in NDCs: What are the key challenges preventing young people from actively participating in the NDC process, and what barriers exist between youth and government collaboration
- Making NDCs More Youth-Inclusive and Impactful: How can NDCs be designed to genuinely reflect youth priorities, and what roles should young people play in shaping, implementing, and monitoring them?
- Strengthening Youth Participation Through Support, Partnerships & Policy Reforms: What policies, resources, and partnerships are needed to ensure meaningful youth participation in NDCs, and how can governments and stakeholders better support this?
Note: This discussion page is specifically for youth from Europe. If you belong to a different region, please return to the main group page and join your designated regional discussion room.
Hi everyone!
Thank you to Youth4Climate for the opportunity for us to exchange on this important topic.
As an advocate and social entrepreneur for spontaneous local community building and real-time grantmaking around SDG action, I am huge proponent on trying, exchanging and opening circles in real-time, and with people around you. NDCs are such a big challenge, and for that people need to organize and inspire each other to take the good decision.
I really hope that On My Way onmyway-app.com could help those grassroots efforts as they try to showcase that another kind of society, more self-organized, is possible.
Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to chat more about action, microgranting, community building or anything EU-rope related! What a time we are living in! https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoiremandonnaud/
Hi all! I’m Mara, I’m a Romanian policy adviser and climate advocate based in London. I’m an active member of YOUNGO and throughout the years I co-facilitated the GST and Climate Action Plans Policy Hackathons and edited the same chapter of the Global Youth Statement.
As delegate at COP27,28,29 and SB58, I closely followed the negotiations, making policy recommendations throughout the 1st GST process and in preparation of NDCs 3.0. Here, I’ll be moderating the consultation for our European region.
The next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0) due this year will be decisive for keeping the 1.5 goal alive.
Current national NDCs would lead to a 2.6% decrease in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. This is far from the 43% reduction needed to stay on a 1.5°C trajectory.
Given the current political context, the insufficient implementation of existing NDCs and the delay in publishing the new NDCs, this consultation provides a timely opportunity to identify:
- The priorities and challenges of young people in our region
- Barriers to youth participation in the NDC process
- Policies and partnerships that can ensure our participation
In the next weeks we will come to an answer to all of these questions and formulate concrete policy recommendations that can make next round of NDCs youth-inclusive and responsive.
This entire process relies on your contribution so I invite you to share all your insights and recommendations in this discussion room.
