For a long time , chemists didn't believe that Carbon can meet metal and they together shape a 3D thing, Susumu kitagawa who recently won the chemistry nobel showed them that : No !

Think of a room where its corners are metal like : Aluminum, Zirconia, Iron, Tin and etc

And its edges are organic (carbon+ hydrogen+oxygen+nitrogen)

They aren't always cube like but they all have a VERY BIG empty space in the core that it's called pore !

We can say that there are two types of MOfs by reaction ( it's so simplified )

  1. They use the pore
  2. They use the edge and corner

What we had talked about in last posts were using their pore to jail CO2 , one thing you may like to know is that how to they jail things ?!

Do your remember about the metallic corners? That's because of them and also the edges can have acidic power that can make an electrical force and Oxygen, Nitrogen and benzene(6 Carbons connected together in a hexagon shape) compounds can make polarity and etc !

Now it's time to show its uses:

  • Gas Transmitter delivery
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Anti bacteria
  • Wound healing
  • Catalyser
  • Solar Panels
  • Sensors
  • Water treatment
  • Drug delivery ( exactly to the place that the drug is needed )
  • And a lot of other things
